La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles.

Welcome to Los Angeles – land of movie stars, sunshine, miles of traffic and… tar pits? A Farmer’s Market? Yes, that’s right, amidst the urban downtown setting is Hancock Park, home to La Brea Tar Pits. Nearby, is the city’s original Farmer’s Market. These are two of my favorite places to visit in this exciting city.

La Brea Tar Pits

Hancock Park is home to La Brea Tar Pits. For tens of thousands of years, oil and tar have seeped to the surface in pools in this area.

Over the years, scientists have discovered human and animal bones in the pits, the oldest dating back 38,000 years.

Burbling tar is quite the site and visitors to Hancock Park can get free up close views of the pits by walking around the park. A visit to the on-site Page Museum will provide more information on the history of the area and tar seepage.

The Original Farmer’s Market

Just down the street from Hancock Park is LA’s original Farmers Market. The historic market first opened in 1934 and has served famous customers such as Elvis Presley, Mickey Rooney and Regis Philbin. This is a great place to grab lunch with so many local food options, including many unique cuisines from a variety of cultures.

The market is adjacent to The Grove, a trendy shopping center. While walking around, my family and I ran into Mario Lopez filming a segment for Extra. How exciting!

Hmm it looks like your blog ate my first comment (it was super long) so I
guess I’ll just sum it up what I wrote and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog.
I as well am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to the whole thing.
Do you have any helpful hints for newbie blog writers?
    I’d really appreciate it.
