At the top of my personal travel bucket list is Egypt. Having been home to civilization for 5,000 years, the historical sights to be seen in Egypt are endless as are the dramatic landscapes of the deserts, rivers and sea.

The most popular tourist destination in Egypt is the Giza Plateau, home to the famed and magnificent Great Pyramids of Giza. A total of five pyramids sit in this plateau, including the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the largest in Egypt and the only remaining Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The structures here were constructed between 2589 and 2504 B.C.

The Giza Plateau is just a short distance from Cairo, the country’s vibrant capital city that is home to 7.7 million people. The city is still home to ancient monuments and the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities here contains thousands of ancient artifacts. Khan El-Khalili is a medieval market filled with charming lane ways, souvenirs and local eats.

Cairo is also located on the Nile, the longest river in the world. No visit to Egypt would be complete without a cruise down this river, past iconic felucca boats, tombs and ancient temples such as Edfu Temple and the temples at Abu Simbel.

No visit to Egypt would also be complete without stopping in Luxor. No, this is not the casino in Las Vegas, it is a modern city build on the grounds of the ancient capital city of Thebes. Home to an astonishing number of monuments and ruins, the city is often referred to as the world’s finest open air museum.

Luxor is also the location of the Valley of the Kings, the ancient burial ground of many Egyptian rulers including Tutankhamen and Ramses IV. The tomb of Tutankhamen is especially unique as it was discovered almost entirely intact in 1922, having eluded looters for centuries.

The nearby Valley of the Queens is the burial ground of the wives of ancient Egypt’s Pharaohs. With intrinsic artwork and attention to detail, the tomb of Nefertari, the favorite wife of Ramses II is said to be one of the most beautiful in all of Egypt.

On a more relaxing note, the Red Sea Riviera makes a perfect beach break. The miles of coastline here offer warm water temperatures ideal for swimming and diving. Sharm El Sheik is a hotspot for beach tourism.

From the beach to the desert, Egypt is full of enchanting landscapes. The Sahara Desert, the world’s third-largest fills much of the country and offers visitors a chance to explore the rolling sand dunes in a vehicle or camel.

With so much to see and do in this exotic country, I would definitely want to work with experts before planning a trip to Egypt.
